I can set this up on the server using pdfkeeper. Do we have PDF back issues?
This is now fixed – the faulty embedded viewer has been removed and replaced with download links to the pdf documents. On most browsers this will open the pdf in the browsers own pdf viewer, but on some it will download the pdf directly to your local device and allow you to read it there.
I spent quite a lot of time trying to set the site up so that it effectively runs itself: e.g. classified ads automatically delete after three months, and the events diary stops displaying rallies three days after their start date. The membership co-ordinator deals with new log-in details for members. Most of my work now concerns updating the events diary, and the occasional backup. I would say I currently spend on average less than an hour a week maintaining the site. How does that sound?
In the post I linked to, to be fair, I did mention integrating regalia sales, If my successor did decide to try that, I think it might be quite a sizable project, but we’d need to involve the regalia rep to find out exactly what was needed – perhaps it could be quite simple.
It sounds like you’d be an excellent candidate – wordpress does run quite well out of the box, and it sounds like you have a good knowledge of php, which is after all what WP runs on. No pressure, but if you were interested in taking on the role, I’d be delighted to discuss it with you further.

It’s a fair point. The system we use at the moment – bbpress – doesn’t allow for private messaging out of the box, but I’m certainly open to the idea if I can find a solution that works. I’ll look into it.
OK, it looks like there are two things to check – firstly, have you deleted the image from the media library? When I went to check it, the system told me it could not find the actual image, which might explain why it is not showing.
Secondly, if you can still find it, or you do upload it again, I wonder if it’s the wrong format – I doubt WordPress can handle .bmp as an avatar image. Could you convert it to .jpg or .gif, and try with that?
That’s strange, it shows on your profile page, but not by your posts on the forum. Very odd, I’ll keep looking into it.
I certainly did ask Del to publicise the new forum, so hopefully there will be an upsurge in interest when the next magazine starts landing on the doormats.
In terms of your missing avatar, did you remember to hit the blue “Update Profile” button on the bottom of your profile page? It’s not an obvious thing to have to do, seeing that you already clicked “select” on the previous screen. Give that a try, and see if it helps.
Meanwhile, for everyone else, here’s a step-by-step guide to uploading a personalised avatar instead of the whirly pattern the system generates for you.
There are, and you’re almost certainly right, but I don’t have access to all of them, and only the latest issues will have been produced electronically. If anyone’s out there with a scanner, a stack of back issues and plenty of free time, on the other hand, please do drop me a line…

I think you hit the nail on the head when talking about copyright issues. The Club does have the right to distribute some factory literature, but we obviously would have to be very careful about respecting other intellectual property rights. I’m open to suggestions, but I don’t see an obvious way of doing this just now, I’m afraid.

Thanks for the kind words. There is indeed a Technical section, which includes Hints and Tips sub-sections for 2 and 4 stroke machines. What would you like to see in the Reference section?
A picture gallery is an interesting idea, although I tried something similar to illustrate the marque history, and wasn’t able to find public domain images for every model.
