InactiveMaybe its because i am a new member and not entirely familiar with the site yet. But i cannot see any way of members to contact each other in the same ways i can on other motorcycling forums I’m a member of.
My suggestion is to implement an easy straightforward internal messaging system, so for instance if members want to ask details of parts or bikes for sale, or to swap contact info privately. it would also alert members when someone has left them a message to there registered email address. therefore speeding up replies. a win – win situation all round.

KeymasterHi Billy,
It’s a fair point. The system we use at the moment – bbpress – doesn’t allow for private messaging out of the box, but I’m certainly open to the idea if I can find a solution that works. I’ll look into it.

InactiveI know PHPBB has this facility baked into it. and it seems to be the platform of choice for most of the bike forums i visit. Im sure there is umpteen suitable wordpress plugins, a couple spring to mind, front end pm, and private messages for wordpress. Im a developer and designer by profession, so if theres anything i can do to help.

InactiveIndeed i am. mostly intranet stuff for oil companies here in NE Scotland. But I’m also a full time carer for my mother, so i have limited free time, so as long as it doesn’t require a lot of hours i could help out perhaps.
Im most familiar with PHP & Jquery, Joomla, PHPBB, can’t say in all honesty i know that much about wordpress. I have installed it on test servers and had a look around the basics, but its never been suitable for the projects I’ve worked on, or needed a lot of plugins and custom coding to bring it up to scratch, so we avoided using it.

KeymasterI spent quite a lot of time trying to set the site up so that it effectively runs itself: e.g. classified ads automatically delete after three months, and the events diary stops displaying rallies three days after their start date. The membership co-ordinator deals with new log-in details for members. Most of my work now concerns updating the events diary, and the occasional backup. I would say I currently spend on average less than an hour a week maintaining the site. How does that sound?
In the post I linked to, to be fair, I did mention integrating regalia sales, If my successor did decide to try that, I think it might be quite a sizable project, but we’d need to involve the regalia rep to find out exactly what was needed – perhaps it could be quite simple.
It sounds like you’d be an excellent candidate – wordpress does run quite well out of the box, and it sounds like you have a good knowledge of php, which is after all what WP runs on. No pressure, but if you were interested in taking on the role, I’d be delighted to discuss it with you further.
