TS125 hard to start

Hello all

Recently the TS has been a real pain to start. ive taken the carbs to bits and its starting a little easier but still taking alot of kicks to fire up. Is it the cold weather , does anyone else have this problem. I was wondering if the timing was a bit out. I did this by ear originally and it started ok. Whats peoples opnion on this ?

Trickle charging my 6 volt ts125

Morning guy’s

Currently it’s -4 out there so cant see me going far today. I’ve bought a 6v battery charger with trickle charge system. I plan to just put it on with the battery still on the bike and not disconnected.  Will this be okay or do I risk damaging coils and other electrical units ?

Does anyone else keep there 6 volt battery in situ.

Valuations for insurance purposes

Hi everyone,

Can anyone help with a market valuation or best estimate for my restored 1990 G reg MZ251? It looks very clean and original, runs well with a new carburettor and has electronic ignition fitted. It has just had MOT renewed. It has done around 32K miles. The insurance is up for renewal and they recommend checking on value. I am estimating around £2,000. Has anyone bought or sold one recently? Many thanks in anticipation.

ETZ251 carburettor trials!

Having recently fitted a tezet electronic ignition system and had some good running with a replacement BVF 3N30 carburettor, I now find myself unable to get the engine started – it appears to be a fuel starvation problem. In an effort to try something more reliable I have now fitted a PWK alternative but still seem to have the same problem. Any creative suggestions for reliable carburation for my 1990 machine?

OMG ive fixed it

Hi all

Well after lots of different attempts to stop the indicators on the TS125 flashing erratically. Its fixed.

I bought a 6v indicator relay from M and P motorcycles. Different wattage and it works. The only thing is with the engine off the indicator warning light stays on all the time when you try the indicators with the engine off. With the engine running it works fine and at high revs the indicators stay constant. This may mean that there is an issue with genuine flasher relays.

Help wanted – ES250

Posted on behalf of new member Roger Bean:

Hi Richard,

Thanks for the MZRC info etc.

Now – I’ve had Jawa, CZ and Zundapp two strokes, all fettled by myself and dead easy starters (1st or 2nd kick cold or hot).  Technique from cold was generally turn on fuel, depress ‘tickler’ and count to three – draught one kick – turn on ignition and one kick to start with throttle closed (in all cases). Gentle throttle while warming and closing choke.  When engine warm just one kick with closed throttle.

However, I’ve never had , or ridden, an MZ, and this ‘new to me’ ES250 is not an easy starter when cold.  I haven’t yet checked it out mechanically ‘cos I don’t collect it until Tuesday (Aug 2)

I’d be much obliged if you could answer the following queries – or please forward this email to someone who can.

I need to know one or two things re starting..

  • Does the ‘choke’ lever operate an air strangler or a petrol enrichment jet?  I.E. Should the lever be ‘open’ or ‘closed’ for cold starting?  I’m assuming it is an enrichment device and the lever should be ‘open’ for cold starting and closed for riding.
  • The twistgrip appears to have a very ‘short’ ‘closed to fully open’ movement and is incredibly ‘light’ (a tired throttle return spring?) is this normal?
  • Finally, the centre stand spring is weak and allows the stand to drag – where best to get a new one?  Oh – was there ever a specific windscreen to fit this model?  I like a modest windscreen to keep the wind chill (and flies) off my chest when riding in ‘shirtsleeves’.

I attach a picture of the new acquisition for your amusement.  I’ve always liked the quirky look of the ES and this one appears complete and comes with all the desirable accessories.  I think the local cheapo luggage store would be a source of suitable panniers in which to put helmets & jackets etc on a day out  – I have some QD fitting kits left over from the seventies which could be pop rivetted into ‘cabin cases’ of a suitable size and colour 🤔🙂.  I plan to use the bike regularly for commuting to the Rowing Club (5 miles) and afternoon/evening saunters around the backroads with brief stops at country pubs with my wife on the pillion (generous dualseat on even the smallest MZs was a major buying decision).

Best wishes

The ongoing indicator drama

Hi all

So many thanks for all your advice on solving my daughters TS125 indicator problem. I tried LED 6 volt bulbs and relay. The indicators worked but the relay constantly clicked and the warning light in  the speedo didnt work.

Ive just tried a lower wattage 6 volt bulb but no real change. So the odd thing is the left side is almost civilised without looking like a crazed raver. The right side front  flashes much faster giving the appearance of a dimmer light.

Why is the right side flashing faster ?
