My MZ Engine Just Stopped

Hi I am a new member my MZ is 125 ETZ 1987 I have had it from new , I have put it back on the road it as been back on the road for7 years it as only done 6000 miles . The engine just stopped I have done a low compression test that’s ok but I have put new oil seals in I have done cylinder compression test and it was 75 PSI  that is low so I got a over size piston and had it  re-bored to the new piston and it is still 75 PSI . I have put new points condenser spark plug I have put petrol in the spark plug hole and it still will not start . If I do not get back to you for a while I am a week or too off  I have been at this for months. Thanking you Derek

Help needed Oil pump on MZ251 air lock near crankcase

Hi everyone,

I am trying to get my 1990 MZ 251 back on the road after 16 years in the shed! I have just changed the feed pipe from the 2 stroke oil container to the oil pump and I am happy that this has no air lock as I have now bled it. However, the small pipe from the pump to the crankcase has also been replaced by me but a few air bubbles remain after filling it with oil and reconnecting to pump and crankcase spigots, and I cannot work out how to further bleed this pipe – will the pump push out these air bubbles (air locks?) when I eventually get the engine started, or do I need somehow to remove them beforehand, and if so, how, as the pump will not work without the engine running, if I have understood its mechanism correctly? Any answers to be gladly received.

Hands on help required

I have just fitted a Vape/Powerdynamo generator/coil kit to my 301 Luxus MZ. It is all mounted and the wiring completed as per the instructions. However I am left with a spare red/black cable that comes from the ignition switch and was connected to the red cable that connected to the previous Vape/Powerdynamo coil. There is no mention of this red/black cable in the new kits instructions and as a result there is no obvious connection from the coil to the ignition switch.

I am pretty rubbish at electrical problem solving so I am looking for someone who could give me some practical help sorting out the bother. I am willing to transport my bike any reasonable distance from here in Liverpool to anyone who is a whizz at this sort of stuff.

Thanks

Dave Gillespie

Carburettor priming

Can anyone tell me whether, after reconditioning the carb on my MZ251, I need to prime it first before refitting. Unfortunately I have refitted it without doing so! Fuel is flowing from the petrol tank to the inlet of the carb but none seems to be reaching the spark plug

Bob Mortimer

I have the sad job of reporting that on Friday 19th of February 2021 the MZ Riders Club lost one of it’s nicest members. Bob Mortimer had been a club member in the NW England section for getting on for 40 years to my knowledge. He was really good company and quite a regular at a number of camping weekends through out the country. He was always ready to help and give advice to anyone who asked especially on electrical problems. He could however blind you with science if you let him! He was also a long time member of the Jawa Club and he continued to ride his bikes right up until a few years ago. He was always a regular on various sidecar outfits too. It is a great pity that we will not be able to attend his funeral because I know it would have been well supported.

It was an honour to have known him

Ts 250 rear wheel needed

Oi oi chums, I have been bolting together a supa5 during lockdown. The bike came to me in boxes and I have been working through these cleaning and painting.

After getting the rear wheel shot blasted, A68D8CB3-DE6E-48F0-9430-692F3B671A66painted and fitting a new tyre imagine my joy when I came to fit it to the bike. It seems that the wheel I have is from a ts125 with brake hub sized for a cable operated brake.

so I need a ts250 rear wheel with the brake hub for the rod operated brake. Does anyone have a spare they wouldn’t mind flogging?

Not bothered about the cosmetics as it will be getting blasted and painted.

Spare Barrel for an ETZ 250

Does anyone have a spare barrel for an ETZ 250? I’m keen to progress my reed-valve project during the current lockdown.

rge condition of the bore is not too important but AI would like something without broken fins or a stripped exhaust thread.
I live near Cheltenham.

Thanks,

Decarbonising exhaust on ETZ 251

Hi everyone,

When using caustic soda to clean out carbon on the long exhaust pipe, which end is bunged up?The manual is ambiguous on this and I had assumed the end of the exhaust containing the baffle would be bunged up and solution put in the other end. Any advice on the correct procedure would be appreciated.

New member – restoring MZ251

Hello, I’ve just joined as I am in the process of restoring my 1990 MZ251 and, although I can see the project end in sight, I may need some additional guidance for completing the rebuild correctly. I am pondering over adding electronic ignition and changing the carburettor but will hold off until I know it fires up with the points ignition. A current conundrum is the rear brake mechanism – I have got it working but only with the cam lever upwards, as otherwise it fouls the side stand – any ideas if this is legal or sensible?

Charging problems

The bane of my MZ riding life has returned. The charging light has started to glow when running on headlights, not very brightly but glowing never the less. My bike is a 1996 301 MZ and so far I have checked with a multimeter that the new battery is fully charged showing 12,9 volts with the ignition on, lights on, bike not running. The result was a very slow voltage drop. However with the engine running on a fast idle and the lights on the voltage is 11,8. With the lights off the meter shows 12.4 volts. The carbon brushes have plenty of meat on them (15,5 mm long both of them) and all the connections and wiring seem to be ok. I would appreciate some help as I am not too good when it comes to electrics. If anyone has any ideas could you can give  this electrical numpty some help but in a language that I can understand.

Cheers

October Yorkshire section meeting

Oi oi badgers

the section meeting this month has been cancelled for obvious reasons.

called in at Ponden Mill today to speak with the lady who is in charge, we decided between us that with the rule of six and other lockdown restrictions the meeting could not go ahead legally.

i will let people know what is happening next month, but unless restrictions are lifted it is unlikely there will be a November or December meet.

Powerdynamo wiring

Oi oi chaps

just on with wiring up my TS 250, it came as a box of bits and all I have done is bolt them back where they should be. Anyhoo it came with a vape ignition but it is unlike any that I have fitted, it has an external pick up and also has a wire that has been split and fitted with eye connectors.

is this to allow an external kill switch? Will I kill the vape if I connect them together and try to run it?

you input would be appreciated.
