Good afternoon everyone, having successfully managed to remove my right side main crankshaft seal, I noticed that the outer race of the main crankshaft bearing rotates in the crankcase, whilst the inner race seems tight on the shaft. I cannot detect any play as such, but I think I expected the outer race to be tight and stationary in the crankcase. Can anybody shed any light on this? Is it normal? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
      Cheers Andre

Hi Andre, both bearing races should not move this means your crankcases are worn out. I would assume this is either TS 125 or ETZ 125 but as you mentioned TS250/1 this is very uncommon.
Best option to tackle it is to replace both cases for a known good pair, alternatively you can fit a new bearing using a bearing fitting compound like Locktite.
Third option, expensive and not really worth doing is to sleeve this bearing journal and have it line bored.

Thank you Rob, this is rather what I feared. It is a ts2550/1 from 1980. I don’t think I have the confidence or experience for this level of engine work, so I wonder if anyone here can suggest or recommend anyone who undertakes this type of work? Many thanks

Depending on the degree of ‘looseness’, one bodge would be to raise ‘pimples’ of aluminium evenly around the inner recess where the bearing fits, accompanied by Loctite ‘bearing fit’. But it does depend on the amount of wear and ‘play’.
      Use a small pointed punch.

For a Gods sake, we live in 21st century and pinning is no longer a thing especially when you can get a pair of good cases for less than £100.

Saving a little bit when you have to spend a lot of money on rebuild is completely pointless.

Thanks for your replies guys, much appreciated. I wonder if anyone can recommend any one that could carry out this kind of engine work?
