      Hi,
I have been chasing down a few gearbox leaks on an ETZ 250 1981 model.
The most recent one is from the lowest fastener (screw) on the primary drive cover (below the level screw), which I removed to facilitate gearbox draining. I have replaced the screw (remembering to use a good aluminium sealing washer), and tightened it as hard as I dare but the oil still leaks out. Any tips regarding stopping this leak?
      Many thanks,
      Ian

Is a “good” aluminium washer the same as a new one? There can be a difference. I always use new washers, and never have any trouble. Also, make sure there is no grit or grot under the head of the screw or in the hole on the cover – maybe clean it out with something like a wooden dowel, which will pick up the dirt and polish the seating a little. If all that fails it calls for much closer inspection, probably with the cover off.

Thanks for your reply. I used a new washer. On closer inspection I discovered that there was at least one (and probably more) old washers all chewed up still sitting in the recess. Managed to remove the the debris, and when the fastener was replaced with a new washer all is good.
