I have just got an ETZ 125 1986, I can’t get a spark to the plug. I have fitted a used “tested” coil abs a new condenser, but to no avail. The points are set at 15. Can any body help me please I’m stumped at the first wicket. Thanks Ron

I WONDER IF THE COIL IS OK?

      Hi, Ron,
Can you check the coils on someone else 12v MZ maybe?
Otherwise, check and clean all the connections, also make sure the points close properly, and give the contact surfaces of the points a light rub with very fine wet and dry and clean, most ignition problems can be due to bad contact somewhere, sometimes it is the little alloy bridge to the condenser. Also make sure you have a good electrical EARTH to the engine, the ETZ’s engine are rubber mounted. Also maybe take the spark plug cap of and see if you get a spark by holding just the HT-wire to an earthing point with some pliers (faulty cap). Also You did not say if the bike was running when you got it, or was it a non runner?
I assume the battery is charged as well, I This is helpful.

      Ruud.

Also, I have had a set of points where one of the contact points had come slightly loose. Very hard to spot that, worth checking, and the plastic post which isolates the current of the contacts set also can come loose,(that happened on my ts 150) it looks ok, but when the points open and the contacts return spring put load on that little post (where the nut is what attaches to the alloy bridge to the condenser) it moves, that can affect the timing/ignition also. Hope this is of some use, to you or maybe any one else suffering with ignition troubles.
      Ruud.
