InactiveDoes anyone know where i could find those Hard side panniers I’ve seen on some ETZ’s and a suitable touring type screen? id also like to know if there is a solo seat available for the early ETZ 250? or has anybody made one from the standard dual seat. I bought my MZ to act as a touring/camping bike so the more luggage/gear carrying space the better.
My bike currently has a rear luggage rack with a topbox. and i do have soft panniers but id prefer to fit hard luggage but cos the MZ is a older bike its getting hard to find luggage to fit, I’m after something like the old craven style panniers you got on older bikes.

ParticipantHi Billy,
Since no one else has provided any words of wisdom, I will try to answer some of your questions. There was hard luggage made specifically for the MZ range similar in style and construction to the Krauser luggage used on BMWs. I have in the past had bikes fitted with this luggage. Personally I never used as I several bikes and prefer the flexibility of soft luggage. Sadly from your point of view these bikes are long gone complete with their luggage. I would suggest keeping an eye on eBay, (German & UK), and putting ad ad in MZ Rider and on the classified section of this site. Craven panniers are like gold dust these days and fetch a high price as all the Brit enthusiasts want them as well.Regarding converting dual seats to single seats, this is easy enough to do. I have previously converted a TS250 seat and a TS150 seat. The only slight complication with the ETZ seat is that it just has sliding clips at the front rather than bolts so you have to invent a way to secure the base to the frame. If its of any interest I have a framework which was made up by Dennis Poulter to give a single seat and a carrier section and should work on an ETZ. You are welcome to collect it if you don’t live to far away; I doubt it worth the cost of posting. My contact details are in MZ Rider (Membership Co-Ord) if you want more info.
Regards
Peter

InactiveHi peter, thanks for the info, any ideas on screens? as that would be a must have mod. i know there was a screen made by i believe rickman, for the ETZ but i cannot find any info anywhere on it. As for panniers i have considered using metal ammo cases, something top loading. at the moment i have a rickman style plastic topbox fitted, its period for the bike, so looks better than a modern style kappa or suchlike. I have seen the etz with the east german police panniers, and they look damn heavy but more than up to the job. I do have soft luggage for touring with my other bikes (Suzi GS500’s and VS1400 intruder) and could use them but id prefer to convert my MZ to a hard cased touring spec.
As for the seat/carrier unit you have, if its any use i am in Aberdeen NE Scotland. i don’t mind paying for a courier if its up to the job. My Hermes is ok price wise compared to royal mail. if you could drop me a private message we can discuss it. especially if it can be modified to take side racks to hold ammo style boxes.is it useable with the standard style rear carrier?

ParticipantHi
This is charles Hancock. MY etz has a Ural single saddle fitted which is very comfortable but I recall that the GDR military versions of all MZ bikes had twin single saddles which were extrenely comfortable. My best advice is to check on German Ebay because things like that are often advertised. If you need any help with translation I will be happy to oblige
