Hi I’ve got Supa 5 with about 34000 on the clock, runs well except the big end is rattling well! Given that these have a needle roller big end, has anyone ever known one to actually break up? I plan to rebuild when funds allow but in the meantime would like to keep using it, especially now Mr sunshine is beginning to poke his face out around the clouds!

With big ends in general, and with roller or needle bearings specifically, the sooner it gets sorted the better. Once they start rattling, the stresses imposed on crank and con-rod increase, leading to rapid deterioration.

I’ve had a 125 big end sieze. Wasn’t too bad, as it was expected, considering the noise.

Check the closet, and count the shoes and handbags. Might give you bargaining power.

Depends how it chooses to let go!
It can lock up the engine and spit you off, rollers can get into the transfer ports and wreck to engine and spit you off!
Why risk a potentially fatal accident and increased cost or write off.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I get the picture, not good! Anyway I’ve decided to sell it now, or at least the wife has decided I’ve to sell it! Its a great bike, everything else has been done on it, if you want to take a look its just been listed on ebay. Now I’m going to go and sulk in the corner……
