Spoke Length for Honda / MZ 16″ wheel

I finally decided to move my honda TLS brake to my superelastik but in doing so I want to retain a 16″ mz rim and heidenau sidecar tyre.

I propose to go up to a 2.15 rear rim to provide a slightly flatter tyre profile rather than retain the normal 1.85. Is anyone aware of any issues or reasons not to do this?

Also does anyone know the correct length of spoke to match up an 16″ mz rim with the Honda hub. Obviously the spokes will require a 90° bend and I shall stick with 4mm diametre, but what’s the length?

I don’t yet have the rim to calculate a length, and probably don’t have the knowledge to work it out. So does anyone know or perhaps has done the conversion and could measure their spokes please?

Armed with such knowledge I’m hopeful to source some spokes from Germany as models like the AWO appear to have the correct 90° bend and are more reasonable priced than central wheelbuilding or the Devon rim Co.

Best wishes

Paul

zeitmaschinen-shop_de

Dear All,

Just to let people know I’ve recently use this German ebay site and received a very good service on what we’re well priced goods. Can’t comment about quality as yet to fit and use but they look OK.

But main reason for posting is to advise that they reduced postage from €49 to €15 when I emailed (in english) saying I thought  collective postage was too much.  The €49 was already discounted automatically.

So if they have what you want, don’t be afraid to ask.

ES 175/1

I’ve just had the good fortune to aquire an ES 175/1. Advertised as incomplète but seems to be mainly there and looking at German sites most parts seem available. But at a price!

Two appeals for help.

The VIN plate is missing and the frame number on the front engine mount is not the clearest but does there exist a list of frame Nos and the year of manufacture? Ditto for engine Nos.

The two major missing components as noticed so far are the seats. Although theré is a damaged Base for the front/riders that requires a new section made and welded in. New seats do not appear to be available although covers and padding is. Does anyone have a seat(s) that they would be willing to sell or let me look at.

Many thanks

Paul

Carb Swop

Dear All,

Slowly progressing with revitalised engine to put in my supa5 and superelastik and my thoughts have turned to carburation and a possible replacement for the worn BVF.

Whilst common thoughts suggest the Mikuni is the best, the Vm30s that are available come with different set up to those mentioned in previous posts, which generally seem to rely upon second hand ones using either vm28s or 32s. The mikuni also requires fettling to the front and back to fit the manifold and filter tube. Alternative jets exist but its all a bit of a phaff.

The cheap Chinese copies would probably prove a a false economy so I’m thinking of a new Bing which apparently is in theory a straight swop when used with the correct choke cable. But whilst Ost2Rad list these  for most models including the TS250, they don’t mention to Supa5. They are also £20+ more expensive than the Bing offered by the MZ Shop for the ETZ.

Does anyone know what the difference is in jetting for the ETZ and Supa5 and therefore whether one of Phil”s carbs would work? Or do I just need to bite the bullet and  buy it from Ost2Rad.

All advice welcomed

Best wishes Paul
