Rally Award Scheme

Do you like packing your tent, sleeping bag and camping gear and getting back to nature?

Camping not your thing? Not a talkative type of person? If not n then do you like just visiting places?...

Do you fancy yourself as a Ewan or Charlie? Or..if you have not got the time, bike or patience to go around the world (with a team of 4x4s to back you up!)

...then does getting together with your fellow MZ’ers and talking about all things MZ (and indeed all things in general) interest you? ... it does? Then read on...

Why not join the MZ Riders Club Rally Award Scheme (RAS) and earn points doing it! (And you know what points make, don’t you?!)

The RAS is currently run by me, Phil Fishwick (I am the Club’sCornwall section rep)  and the RAS award period runs from one years Club AGM to the next Club AGM. The Club’s AGMs are usually early September and you can accrue points throughout the year by attending various rallies, camps and promotional events organised by the MZRC.

Points go to individuals and riders can be rewarded by either Bronze, Silver or Gold badges, stickers T shirts etc.

The highest scoring individual gets a unique T shirt and highest scoring Section gets a plaque to keep.

Events are held all over the country from Cornwall to Scotland. Details of where these are are published in the MZ Rider Magazine events diary every other month.

To join the RAS, all you need is a RAS Form. You can contact me, Phil Fishwick by E mail: homer403 [at] aol [dot]com or send an SAE and it will be put in the post or download/print one below.
Contact details for me (Phil in case you have forgotten!) are also in the Club Magazine and on the National Committee page.   Email me at: homer403 [at] aol [dot]com

How the RAS works.
Once you have the form (The form is here at the bottom of this page) and have started attending various events, points are awarded:

1 point for a day visit/event,
2 points for 1 night and
3 points for 2 nights.
These points are doubled for attending on an MZ, MuZ, Simson, Kanuni, IWL or DKW.
(I wonder about a Trabant!)

Make sure to get the form signed off by an official at the event and you are on the way to an award. A bit like Inland Revenue, Self-Certification, you complete your own return, so don’t forget to take the RAS form with you for signing.

At the end of the RAS year, send the completed form back to Phil and your award will be presented at the AGM.
Everybody that enters gets a RAS sticker,
.. 9-19 points gets a bronze award,
20-29 points gets a silver award and
30+ gets a gold award.

There is also an award for the section whose members accrue most points, hard fought in the past, between North Wales & Cheshire, and South of Scotland Sections. Don’t let one of them win again!

You may need some luggage...

..and something to keep you warm

It all fits on Lance’s Saxon 251. Honest.

...a 301 isn’t any bigger!

..but why is she on
Neil Rodger’s bike?

This “Touratech” look-a-like luggage is actually made from plywood and fits standard MZ pannier frames.
It cost less than £50 squids to make. Worthy of note are:
the external 2 stroke bottle carrier made from a plastic drain pipe,
cyclists water bottle holder now also carrying 2 stroke oil,
the external frying pan holder.
(Now I bet Touratech don’t have one of those available and if they did it would cost more than a whole MZ!)
The top handles came from Screwfix, and the top latches from eBay.
Not easily visible is the umbrella carrier but you can see the umbrella on the pic of the bike further up the page.
