In true MZ style members might want to consider the following.
Our intrepid adventure bike riders equip their large steeds with expensive metal mule aluminium panniers when the farthest they are likely to go is Asda at a huge costs of hundred of pounds. True they will stand up to a fair amount of abuse. Surfing through ebay I came across aluminium record cases which could work as occasional panniers at a fraction of the cost and which look quite substantial. They have locks, carrying handles and reinforced corners. The cheapest I have seen them for is around £20.
